Finished with Starlink

If you're done with Starlink, there are two jobs. You sort out the plan in your Starlink account, and we take the gear off your house.

The uninstall is $250. Travel depends on your address, and we show it in your quote.

Step 1: cancel or pause your plan

You do this yourself on the Starlink website. We can't do it for you, because it's your account.

To cancel

  1. Log into your Starlink account at starlink.com
  2. On the Home page, select Your Subscription, then Manage next to your plan
  3. Click Cancel Service

Your service keeps running to the date you've paid for, then billing stops. Change your mind before then and you can hit Resume on your account page. After that, restarting depends on whether your area has room.

To pause instead

  1. Log into your account at starlink.com
  2. Select Subscriptions, then the service line you want to pause
  3. Select Manage, then Pause Current Service
  4. Click Confirm

Pausing puts you on Standby mode. You get a very slow connection, enough for messages and to keep the account alive, for a small monthly fee. Check the current Standby price in your account before you switch. Pausing doesn't hold your spot on a Residential plan, so if your area fills up you may not get the same plan back later. Standby isn't available on some promotional plans and rental kits.

Time it against your billing date

Starlink bills on UTC time. Any change has to be made before 12:00 am UTC on your billing day, or it rolls over to the next cycle. In Victoria that's 10 am in winter and 11 am during daylight saving. Book the uninstall for around the time your paid month runs out, so you're not paying for a dish that's already off the roof.

The kit is yours to keep, sell or give away

If you bought your kit, it's yours. If you rented it from Starlink, it isn't. Starlink wants rented kits back in good condition within 30 days of cancelling, or it charges you the full kit price.

Selling or giving it away? Starlink's own steps are:

  1. Log into starlink.com, select Subscriptions, then your subscription
  2. Click Manage, then Cancel Service
  3. Under Devices, find your Starlink, click Transfer and confirm. This removes it from your account for good
  4. If you like, enter the new owner's email so they get an activation link
  5. Factory reset the router. In the Starlink app it's Settings > Router > Factory Reset
  6. Hand over every part of the kit and give the new owner the Starlink identifier

A few catches. You can't transfer a kit until 120 days after purchase or 90 days after activation, whichever comes first. The account can't owe anything. Rented kits can't be transferred. If you bought it in the last 30 days, Starlink's return policy may suit you better.

What happens on the day

  • We check the dish, mount and cable run, and confirm what you want left behind
  • The dish comes down first, then the mount
  • Tile roof: We unbolt the bracket from the truss and slide the tile back. Colorbond: We remove the tripod and put your existing roof screws back in. Fascia: bolt holes are filled
  • The cable comes out and the entry hole is filled
  • We unplug the router and hand everything to you

Make-good options

You choose what happens to the cabling. We can pull out the cable, conduit and wall plates, or leave the conduit and plates in so a future owner has an easy run for their own install. Either way the holes are filled. You may still see where the mount sat. We don't repaint.

Questions

How much does it cost?
$250. Travel depends on your address, and we show it in your quote. That covers taking down the dish, mount, cable and router and filling the holes.
Do I have to cancel Starlink before you come?
No. Cancel or pause whenever suits your billing date. Your service keeps running until the end of the period you've paid for.
Can I pause instead of cancelling?
Yes, on most Residential plans. Standby mode keeps a very slow connection for a small monthly fee. It doesn't hold your spot on a Residential plan if your area fills up.
Can I sell the dish?
If you bought it, yes. Cancel your service, transfer it to the buyer in your Starlink account, factory reset the router and give them the Starlink identifier. Rented kits go back to Starlink.
Will my roof be left with holes?
No open holes. Tile roofs have no drilled tiles, and on Colorbond the existing screws go back in. Fascia and cable entry holes are filled. Talk to us about your roofing supplier's requirements.
Can you leave the cable in for the next owner?
Yes. We can leave the conduit and wall plates in place and close the ends, or take it all out.
