Router relocation

Move your router, fix the Wi-Fi

Router in the garage, weak Wi-Fi in the rooms you use? Better placement may help.

Your router may be inside a metal cabinet or at the far end of the house.

We check your connection and existing cabling before recommending a better location.

Router relocation: from $180

Why the router's position matters

Brick, concrete, metal cabinets and distance can weaken Wi-Fi.

A central, open position may improve coverage without buying new equipment.

We test coverage before recommending any relocation.

What we can move

We may be able to relocate your own router using existing Ethernet outlets.

We can also check whether repositioning existing mesh units would help.

NBN-owned network equipment is different. Relocation of that equipment goes through your provider.

The connection type makes a difference

FTTP, FTTC, HFC and Fixed Wireless connections can use an Ethernet feed to a compatible router.

Suitable outlets may allow a router move after we inspect the wiring.

FTTN and FTTB modem-routers use a DSL input. Moving that input is a different cabling job.

The internet feed and the return path

Moving a router can affect the other outlets connected through your data cabinet.

You may need a feed to the new router position and a return path to the cabinet.

The return path matters when you want the other cabinet outlets to remain connected.

One cable cannot automatically carry both connections. We check your network layout first.

What happens on the visit

  1. Test suitable wired equipment and compare Wi-Fi performance in the rooms you use.
  2. Map and check available data outlets and the cabinet connections.
  3. Agree on a router position and explain any new cabling or equipment required.
  4. Relocate and configure the router where suitable, then check coverage with you.

What will it cost?

From $180

Using suitable existing data outlets. New cabling, difficult access and equipment are quoted separately.

The $150 health check is credited towards repair or upgrade work completed during the same visit. If no work goes ahead, the $150 visit fee applies.

We confirm the price, extra travel and any additional work before booking.

Questions about this service

My router is inside a metal garage cabinet. Does that matter?
It can. Metal can weaken the Wi-Fi signal before it reaches your living areas. We check whether relocating the router makes sense.
Can you move the NBN box?
NBN-owned equipment is managed through your internet provider. We assess relocating your own router instead.
Do I need new cabling?
Not always. We first test the outlets you already have. Additional cabling is quoted before work.
Will relocating the router fix slow internet?
It may improve in-home Wi-Fi. It will not resolve a provider-side fault. Comparing wired and Wi-Fi results helps narrow down the cause.
How long does it take?
That depends on the connection type, existing outlets and access. We confirm the scope before booking.
