Corinella is a fishing and holiday town on the eastern shore of Western Port, 114 km from Melbourne. It has an important place in Victoria's early European history. In 1826 soldiers and convicts were moved here from Phillip Island to guard against a French claim, and the settlement was abandoned in 1828. A cairn in Jamieson Street marks the spot. Today it has a pier, a boat ramp and the vehicle barge to French Island. Coronet Bay is next door.
