Korumburra is a South Gippsland town of about 3,600 people, 120 km south-east of Melbourne on the South Gippsland Highway. It sits 227 metres above sea level among rolling green hills. Coal built the town: the Korumburra fields produced 2 million tonnes between 1893 and 1962, and the 1937 Sunbeam Colliery strike was Victoria's first stay-in coal strike. The heritage-listed railway station dates from 1908. Poowong, Kongwak, Jumbunna and Arawata are close by.
