Starlink Standard dish on a tripod on a metal roof.

Should Starlink go on the house or the shed?

Put the dish where the sky is clear and the cable can reach a sensible router. That is usually the house. The shed gets a link, not a second internet service.

Sky first

If the house roof is under trees and the shed roof is open, the shed can be the better dish position. If both are open, the house is usually simpler: shorter cable, router near the rooms you live in, and a link onward to the shed.

One service is usually enough

A shed that needs Wi-Fi usually does not need its own Starlink account. It needs a path from the dish at the house: a wireless bridge or a cable, then Wi-Fi inside the shed.

Closer top-down plan of a rural property with paddock fences and gates and a driveway from the road gate to the house. The rectangular Starlink Standard dish sits on a tripod on the Colorbond house roof, and the router gives Wi-Fi inside the house. One dotted bridge link joins a radio on the house eave to a radio on the shed eave; the two radios face each other across a clear path with no trees in the way. A Wi-Fi access point inside the shed gives coverage there.
Example layout: one link from the house to the shed.

Cable length still matters

A dish on a far shed means the router and the power start at the shed unless the layout says otherwise. Tell us which building you work in, and we will put the dish where it can be reached later.

Mark the house, the shed and the gate.

Map your home, shed, stable, office or gate before we quote your network. Drop a pin on each building. We check line of sight and distance on site before we quote, so we can tell whether house Wi-Fi will reach or a building needs its own link.
