Caravan internet and Starlink

Park Wi-Fi, a phone hotspot and a Starlink Roam setup solve different trips. The useful question is where you actually stop, and whether you have power.

Three different connections

Caravan-park Wi-Fi is convenient and often crowded. A phone hotspot is fine for maps and messages until the tower disappears. Starlink Roam is the option people look at when the trip leaves coverage, provided the plan they order is actually a Roam plan and they can power the kit.

VINCONNECT does not sell Starlink plans. Check which plan Starlink is selling before you pay.

Placement and power

The dish needs a clear view of the sky. Under a thick tree canopy it will keep losing signal, the same problem as a house roof under trees. It also needs a proper power supply: the van battery, a power setup that suits your van, or power at the site. A thin USB lead is not enough to run it.

A portable setup is not the same job as a dish mounted for a house. If the van is the home base and the dish lives there, say so. If it is a weekend kit, say that too.

Television and streaming

To stream in the van you need the internet and a smart TV or streaming stick on the van's Wi-Fi. A Starlink dish does not replace a TV antenna.

Questions

Is the photo a real VINCONNECT job?
No. It isn't a photo of a finished VINCONNECT job.
