Mesh or a wireless bridge?

Mesh spreads Wi-Fi through one building. A wireless bridge carries the network to another building. They are not interchangeable.

Mesh

Mesh units pass the Wi-Fi through one house, so you are not stuck with one router in a corner. They help with brick walls, a second storey and a long single building. Each unit still has to reach the last one. Metal, long distance and trees drop that signal quickly.

A wireless bridge

A bridge is a pair of outdoor radios aimed at each other. It is the stand-in for a trench. It does not, by itself, give you Wi-Fi inside the far building. That building still needs an access point, and cameras still need power and a recorder plan.

If the shed, stable or granny flat has no signal, it needs a wireless link to that building, not another Wi-Fi unit inside the house.

Top-down plan of a rural property with paddock fences and gates, a fenced stable yard and a driveway from the road gate to the house. The rectangular Starlink Standard dish sits on a tripod on the Colorbond house roof. Soft teal zones show where Wi-Fi reaches: the router zone covers the house and its yard, and the Wi-Fi access points inside the stables and the shed each cover that building. The paddocks between the zones are not covered. Two dotted bridge links carry the network from radios on the house eaves to radios on the stables and the shed. The teal zones are a diagram of that coverage.
Example layout: Wi-Fi at the house, the stables and the shed. The paddocks between them are not covered.

A simple way to choose

Same roof, weak rooms: mesh or extra access points. Different building, especially steel: a link, then coverage inside. Both can exist on one property. The house can be meshed and the shed can sit on a bridge.

Mark the house, the shed and the gate.

Map your home, shed, stable, office or gate before we quote your network. Drop a pin on each building. We check line of sight and distance on site before we quote, so we can tell whether house Wi-Fi will reach or a building needs its own link.
